Nobody ever said parenting was easy. You know how timid I am; I would have been sick to my stomach or worse before I got the message from her. 🙁. Happy endings are good! 🥰
Belle I have enjoyed your posts so much. When we lived overseas and traveled we began to give the kids opportunities to explore on their own as well. It was scary too but I know it was a huge boost to their confidence. I loved hearing about your love of walking and exploring. Being on a walk in a new place makes me so happy!
I have to say that we would never have allowed you to walkabout alone at age 6. I’m sure your sisters were responsible! I loved this letter. It evoked so many memories of my own childhood in NYC when I had a ridiculous amount of freedom and developed an appreciation for the power of my feet and legs. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself. I love following your adventures.
I love Venice so much because walking is important to me! Did have a few challenges moving our suitcases over cobblestones. But even during the high tourist season, the scrum of people were so concentrated that the vast majority of Venice stayed quite open. Loved being there long enough to explore the secluded areas, particularly in the evening.
I absolutely love Rome. We were there in early December. It's such a great city, feels endlessly interesting and rewarding. Plus the food markets are just unbeatable.

That's the way to do it! I think it holds true with any travel - head for the quiet neighborhoods and you'll find the magic.
Loved having a wander in Rome during the weekend of a business trip, if you find yourself there..

This one really resonates! So beautiful, as always, to hear your voice…
Thanks, Lisa!
